•R.E.A.D. with a reading education assistance dog every Wednesday evening between 5:30 and 7:00 p.m. Animals are ideal reading companions because they foster relaxation, lower blood pressure, listen attentively, do not judge, or criticize, and allow children to proceed at their own pace. When a dog is “listening” fear of failure is removed allowing a child to learn more effectively. The dog’s handler is a skilled facilitator who provides subtle support.
