Summer is coming to a close; crickets are chirping, the fire is crackling and the old stories are being told. The world has become a dark and threatening place and those familiar tales bring comfort to the souls huddled around the flames. The names echo down through the ages: Homer, Bart, Marge, Lisa, Maggie. Sideshow Bob.
Mr. Burns.
Anne Washburn’s wildly inventive story of survival, resilience, and art after nuclear apocalypse begins with a rag-tag band of companions trying to remember the details of old Simpsons episodes. As the years pass, these stories evolve into live performance pieces, and the survivors become a professional theatre troupe, traveling through the wasteland, bringing nostalgia, entertainment and escape from harsh reality to their audiences.
This play explores the ways in which art preserves and heals the human spirit in the midst of disaster and despair. It follows the evolution of a story, from memories of those original Simpson episodes all the way to a highly stylized and dramatic third act that re-invents the Simpsons stories and characters in amazing and unexpected ways.
On Saturday, May 11, Rebel Alliance Theatre will be presenting one very special performance of Mr. Burns. The venue is very special as well The Rushford Meadery and Winery, located on Liberty School Road in Omro. Our hosts, Shane and Laurel, make and serve the most amazing wines and meads, handcrafted from their own grapes, local produce and honey. They have 3 craft beers on tap and will be offering their newly released Hopped cider the night of the performance.
The show begins at 7 pm (doors open at 6:30 pm). Tickets are $12.50 in advance and $20.00 at the door. Advance tickets may be purchased at the Rushford Meadery and Winery or at Brown Paper tickets.
