Poet Danez Smith to read at Ripon College

PoetDanez Smith will read from their National Book Award Finalist second collectionof poems, Don’t Call Us Dead, Monday, April 23, at RiponCollege. The program will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Lane Library on the campus. Itis free and open to the public.

Bookswill be available for purchase.

Smith isa black, queer paz writer and performer from St. Paul, Minnesota. They are theauthor of [insert] boy (YesYes Books,2014), winner of the Kate Tufts Discovery Award and the Lambda Literary Awardfor Gay Poetry. Selected as a 2017 National Book Award finalist, Danez recentlyreleased their second full collection, Don’tCall Us Dead, published by Graywolf Press in September 2017.

They alsoare the recipient of fellowships from the Poetry Foundation and the McKnightFoundation, and a 2017 National Endowment for the Arts Fellow. Their work hasbeen featured widely on platforms such as TheLate Show with Stephen Colbert, BuzzFeed, The New Yorker and The NewYork Times.
