Upcoming at the Thrasher Opera House in Green Lake!

Auditions for Missoula Children’s Theatre’s Robinson Crusoe at Thrasher

Auditions for the Missoula Children's Theatre’s production of ROBINSON CRUSOE will be held on Monday, January 19, from 4 p.m. - 6 p.m. at the historic Thrasher Opera House in Green Lake.  There are roles for students in grades K to 12.  Approximately 50-60 area students will be cast to appear in the show with the MCT Tour Actor/ Directors.  During the audition, four to six Assistant Directors are also selected to help teach and direct the show early in the week and take on technical responsibilities at performance time. There is no cost to participate.

Among the roles to be cast are Robinson Crusoe, his sole companion, a goat named Wilson, Leonard the Leopard, Friday’s Family, the Oscar Octopus Octet, a family of goats, the Very Hairy Frowny-Face Tribe, and the colorful Chameleons.

Students wishing to audition should arrive by 3:50 p.m. on Monday and plan to stay for the entire two-hour session.  A detailed rehearsal schedule will be distributed at the conclusion of the audition on Monday.  The first rehearsal begins approximately 30 minutes after the auditions for a few older students with more complicated parts. Although not all cast members will be needed at every session, those auditioning must have a clear schedule for the entire week and if selected, be able to attend all rehearsals required for their role.  Cast members scheduled for the full 4 ½ hours of rehearsal will be asked to bring a sack supper or snack.  There is no guarantee that everyone who auditions will be cast in the play.

And then, after only one week of intensive rehearsal, these young, budding artists will perform the full scale musical/play; THE AMAZING ADVENTURES OF ROBINSON CRUSOE on Saturday, January 24 at 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.  The Missoula Children's Theatre residency in Green Lake was supported by grants from the Wisconsin Arts Board with funds from the State of Wisconsin.  Additional support was provided by the Green Lake State Bank, Wallenfangs and Green Lake Kiwanis Club, with special accommodations by The Bay View Motel.

Acclaimed Singer-Songwriter Susan Werner coming to Thrasher in January

By David J. Klug

Farm girl Susan Werner will bring her Midwestern charm and acclaimed folk music to the historic Thrasher Opera House on Saturday, January 17 at 7:30 p.m.  Raised in rural Iowa, Werner began her professional music career in Philadelphia after studying classical voice at Temple University. Inspired by a Nanci Griffith concert, Werner left behind her opera training and began performing as a singer-songwriter at coffeehouses throughout the northeast.

With seven albums under her belt including the new “Classics,” an active touring career throughout the U.S. and a string of accolades from the likes of The Washington Post, The Village Voice and The New Yorker, Werner has become one of the defining artists of the folk music genre. Her songs effortlessly slide between folk, jazz and pop, and are delivered with a sassy wit and classic Midwestern charm.

The All Music Guide raves that Werner is a “songwriter and musician who is in such complete command of her gifts that it's almost scary." And Howard Reich, chief critic of the Chicago Tribune, wrote in 2006: "Werner is one of the most innovative songwriters working today."

This program is supported in part by a grant from the Wisconsin Arts Board with funds from the State of Wisconsin and the National Endowment for the Arts.  Tickets are only $18 and available at the Thrasher office, Knowledge Emporium, Green Lake Bank (Green Lake); Pick N’ Save, Ripon Drug (Ripon); Twister (Princeton) or by calling (920) 294-4279.  Online tickets available at www.thrasheroperahouse.com.
